How do they work?
Custom orthotics fit inside most shoes. Designed to match the shape of your feet.
Orthotics can help anyone with pain related to walking or imbalances in the body. A huge benefit of custom orthotics is that they can be worn daily during most activities.
Who can help?
Your DPM can prescribe custom orthotics, MD, DO, or chiropractor and can last well over a year in most cases. Over-the-counter shoe inserts are available at most drugstores, and they lack the custom-built precision of a prescription orthotic and can cause more issues than you already have. This ‘one size fits all’ inserts rarely match your feet or provide the custom support you need.
Contact us and schedule an appointment to discuss how custom orthotics might ease your pain. Some insurances cover foot orthoses (orthotics) and require a referral and office visit notes from your provider to submit to your insurance company for benefits

Foot orthoses are used to treat several conditions such as:
Achilles Tendon Disorder
The Achilles tendon is a powerful tissue and the largest tendon in the body which connects the muscles of the calf to the heel. The Achilles tendon is responsible for creating force to push off the foot and lifting the foot to clear the ground when walking. It’s common in runners and people who play sports only on the weekends. Sharp heel pain and tenderness are key symptoms
Diabetes Complications
Patients with diabetes are likely to face dangerous foot problems. Neuropathy and poor blood flow likely lead to unrecognized pain, injuries, and ulcers that progressively develop into worse conditions. Poor circulation causes those injuries do not heal. Neuropathy is nerve damage that usually results in numbness. This makes it likely for even a tiny cut, blister, or foot infection to develop into a much worse condition that can lead to amputation or even the loss of life if entirely ignored.
Flat Foot
Flat feet can occur during childhood if the arches of the feet don’t develop, after an injury, or from the wear and tear of aging.
Adult Acquired Flatfoot: This cause of flatfoot is due to the dysfunction of the posterior tibial tendon. Go to that pathology section to review this form of flatfoot.
Flexible Flatfoot: This flatfoot originates in childhood due to the skipped development of the medial longitudinal arch past age 5. This condition is usually bilateral, and the foot arch returns to normal when not weight-bearing.
Plantar Fascitis
Felt at the bottom of the heel it’s a common overuse injury. Plantar fasciitis occurs when the foot arch has pain and swelling. It’s common for patients with plantar fasciitis also to have heel spurs. Issues with the plantar fascia usually revolve around poor biomechanics. Symptoms include sharp pain near the heel. Pain might be worst in the morning.
Shin Splints
Are a broad term to describe the sharp pain in the tibia’s outer aspect or shins. Shin splints are usually the result of repetitive stress on the bone due to excessive physical activity with little rest and poor biomechanics. Untreated and unresolved shin splints can result in stress breaking. The main symptom is leg pain.
